Born
in Santa Barbara, California in 1959, Byron studied Environmental Studies
at the University of California at Santa Barbara and Applied Art and Design
at Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo. After a lengthy career as a freelance illustrator
and printmaker, he turned his full attention to painting in 2000.
Byron works out of his studio in Chicago and lives in Evanston with his
wife Patty and two old cats,
Bear and Käthe.
Byron's
paintings are a marriage of abstract and realism. On one end is the
subject rendered in a studied, realistic manner. On the other is the
abstract environment
that the subject inhabits. Byron tries to combine the two
so that they interact and inform one another. In the end, he hopes
that process creates a painting he wants to look at.
