Born in Santa Barbara, California in 1959, Byron studied Environmental Studies at the University of California at Santa Barbara and Applied Art and Design at Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo. After a lengthy career as a freelance illustrator and printmaker, he turned his full attention to painting in 2000. Byron works
out of his studio in the Rogers Park neighborhood of Chicago, and lives in Evanston with his wife Patty and two old cats, Bear and Kathe. Byron is represented by Water Street Gallery in Douglas, MI.

"Byron Gin's world is captured in his paintings through a careful study of the simple and ordinary. Coffee cups, pencils, and rubberbands are his inspiration. Incredibly textured fields
of color surround these objects and bring meaning and
importance to something that most of us would never give the time to stop and study. Byron's paintings become an experience in meditation. They are spare and ambiguous, simple and complex, aggressive and subdued."
